The 2000 had a tranny that died last week. The truck started making a weird whirring noise and shifting late/hard. It wouldn't go into overdrive sometimes and once I did get it into OD on the way to the shop the RPMs started jumping around. They couldn't even pull it into the shop it was slipping so bad. I had it towed to a guy that I know that is very familiar with the 4R100 transmissions and he took a look at it last night. It turns out the pump took a dump on it. He has only seen this 5 or 6 times and it was usually in plow trucks. It was a factory defect with the gear not being hardened enough. I found a re manufactured transmission on ebay for $1,200 with free shipping and no core. I talked to the guy selling the transmission and he seems pretty legit so I have a transmission on the way. This sucks seeing as I change the fluid every 30k and we take good care of the truck. Oh well. This new one has a 3yr, 100k mile parts AND labor warranty.

What vendor did you buy it from on Ebay? I am going to need a tranny pretty soon. $1,200 for a 3 year 100,000 mile gaurantee is pretty good.
By the way, how many miles did you get out of the original tranny?
I had been looking at that place as a possible location to replace my current tranny. I wonder if they replace all hard parts in their rebuilds rather than just the seals. It would be great if you could do a follow up after you install the tranny to let us know how it went.

Thanks Chris.
For $1200-I can guarantee that they did not. There is no reason whatsoever to change all of the hard parts during a rebuild. If the part is damaged or out of spec, then it needs changed. Otherwise, it's good and there's no reason to change it.

The truck is finally on the road again. The transmission showed up last Tuesday and I was less than impressed with their shipping times and packaging of the transmission. The pallet almost fell apart when I pulled it off of the truck with the forklift. The torque converter came on Wednesday. It was a Precision converter. My guy got the tranny put back in on Sunday and I picked it up. Everything seems to be good so far but only time will tell. Tim said that they never put the tranny on a dyno and only did an air test as there was no fluid in it when he installed it. I'll let you guys know if anything doesn't work out.
