Hi, ive got a 99 exp Eddie Bauer. I searched the forums and found a lot on the blend door fix. It seems i have just cold air. On occasion i have warm air but it will go full cold randomly. I checked the heater core its hot in hot out. I got to the mixer motor it turns and so does the blend door(its still in one piece). If i select any thing off of 60 the mixer motor goes to full hot and vice versa. If i manually turn the blend door i can control the temp. What might be the cause? faulty mixer motor? the actual control unit where you select the temp?
It was working fine for about 25 min while trying and testing then went to cold or hot (which is what prompted me to start looking into the issue.
I have the same issue on warms days the AC doesn't work on cold days the heat doesn't work. The rear air and heat work just fine it it the front controls that are not working heat or air. Air blows but not the correct temp. Can anyone tell me what is wrong?
My heat is lukewarm in front also. The back works great. I don't have a problem with the A/C, it is cold. I took my whole dash off looking for the heater core one week and freaked out my wife. The blend door is not broken. My dealer flushed the radiator last year and it seemed to work for about one month. I am afraid I need a new heater core, it seems plugged up. It's about 11 years old now...
I just got my 3rd Explorer, an 05, and i'm having a problem with the air selector switch. This might be related to the problems mentioned with the blend door. When I select almost any setting, air comes out of the defroster vent by the windshield. When I put the switch in position to blow air from the dash vents, most of the air STILL goes to the defroster. This didn't happen as I remember when I got the truck in December, and tested it out. Any ideas as to what this may be caused by? Blend door stuck in the defrost position? If it is, is there a thread on removing the dash panel, and fixing this issue? I have an 03 Corvette, and I had to do it in that, but I was able to find a thread on this ( Door Actuator) on Corvette Forum, but I can't seem to find it here when I do a search. Help please.
I would look for a vacuum leak. The doors that control the flow of air to the various outlets are often controlled by vacuum. When you have leak they often default to the defrost position.

Thanks for the info. However, I'm not familiar with the setup of the Explorers system. How do you access the vent doors? Do you remove the dash panel that covers the control switch? Does it just pry off?
Is there a thread which shows how to do all this stuff? On my Corvette website, there are links to threads which show how to do certain repairs, with photos. Are there any here?
Thanks for the help.
I would check under the hood first. I had this happen on my Mustang and it was the supply line. You can search a topic and you might find what you are looking for. If this is an explorer you might try that forum.

Thanks for your help. To be honest, this forum blows. The search section gives you NO HELP AT ALL. I've done searches for blend door stuck, a/c blend door issues, blend door vacuum leaks, and a bunch more. All I get is BS topics which have nothing to do with these problems. Time to suck it up, and just take it to the dealer. I've tried searches for other topics too, and get the same kind of ***** results. It's a waste of time here.

The forum doesn't blow, but I agree that the search function does. It searches for ANY word in the search box and there is no way to search for posts that contain ALL words in the search box. Even the suggested use of putting quotes (") around phrases seems to be ignored.
Like in your case when searching for 'blend door' you will get any post with the word 'blend' or 'door' in it, instead of posts that contain only both of the words. Even using "blend door" will get you the exact same results.
The search function along with not having a button at the end of a thread to bring you back to the forum have been my only two complains for the software this site uses.

My point is that I came to this site, to learn some specific things about my vehicle, not some random junk, and useless blogs. If the search function doesn't work, then it's useless to me.
As I said, I also own a Corvette. Corvetteforum.com has a much more user friendly search function. It also has a "tech "section with postings on how to do certain common repairs or mods. I have used it often to learn about various mods before I decided to do them. I also learned about various issues that turned out to be an easy fix if you knew what you were looking for.
I also owned an Audi at one point, and Audiforums. com also had useable search functions to find info about specific issues.
As you admit, the search function here doesn't do much to help. Therefore, to me, it negates the usefulness of the site.
i have same problem but there is a ticking noise also when i turn it to heat nd i was told it was a bad relay but havent gotten round to checkin it ojut yet
