I'm considering purchasing a 1984 E-350 camper van (Vangaurd Converstion) but know very little about this chassis or motor. Can any one pass on what to look out for in this configuration,. I'm pretty sure its a 460 and a C-6?. 138,000kms only but has been sitting for the last 1.5 years.
if the price is good ..spend the bucks to get an inspection done for about a hundred bucks you get a lot more info then we can give here..,that said i have had 2 vangaurd camper .check for leaks in the roof in the corners.run up all the appliances, the can be expensive to repair or replace..and ask how often they used it and who maintained it..the are pretty good units if they are taken care of
Thanks Kenjh. I whent there last night to start it up, it runs fine for 30 seconds or so and then dies. Any sugestions? I was unable to find a fuel filter to sawp out incase its dirty.
It doesnt feel like the typical clogged line though because it runs as though it only has a set few ounces of gas each time to run on, regardless of the Rev's you hold. It still dies if I let it idle and not Rev it, it just take a little longer.
ok is it carberated or fuel injected? if you crank it over will it start again??or do you have to wait?can youhear the fuel pump? they pressurize the system then go silent when they have pressure up
well if it carbed disconnect the fuel line to the carb an run it into a 2 liter jug and crank it over this way you will see what you are feeding the carb if it stinks fresh gas might cure it .running for 30 seconds makes me think the float valve is sticking .purging some of the old gas will help..the pump should move a fair bit of gas even just cranking if it doesn't it might just be the fuel pump is tired.....so ...how are you doing??
well if it carbed disconnect the fuel line to the carb an run it into a 2 liter jug and crank it over...
I tried that once and it fired up, started filling the jug as the engine ran, and then when the carb had used up the fuel that was in the bowl the engine backfired and started the jug and the disconnected fuel line on fire. Luckily, there was a hose nearby and there wasn't any damage, but it sure woke me up.
You need to disable the high-voltage part of the ignition system if you are going to crank the engine with a fuel line open. I would suggest that pulling the coil wire isn't enough to prevent a spark, but maybe it is. It might be better to disconnect the +12v line on the coil and secure it so that it can't arc.
Definitely pull off the slide on piece on the coil to remove the sparking power of the coil before cranking it over with the fuel line open.
