Ok, I have a 1997 F350 4x4 with the Powerstroke. I am wanting to get rid of the E4OD and replace it with a ZF 5 Speed. I have several questions. What transmissions can I use in my truck (year, model)? Also, what parts would I need to do the swap? I would obviously need the ZF trans, clutch, flywheel. What else would I have to get to make this clean and easy? Any help would be great. Also if you have any of the parts a may need please let me know.
Don't use a tranny from a gas motor, as the jump from 2nd to 3rd is terribly large.
You will need the pedals and clutch linkage and master and slave cylinders from a 94.5-97 truck. Also may need to get a transmission tunnel from a manual truck.
You will have to change the computer also. Driveshafts will need to be changed.
So would I be better off sinking the money into my E4OD? How much power can the ZF handle? This is the first automatic I have ever owned. I have alwas had 3, 4, 5 or 6 speed vehicles.
id put the money in the e40d im working on getting the parts to get a e40d or 4r100 in my truck. if pcs was done with there 5r100 controller i would be getting a 5r. im getting the pcs controller so it can be a semi auto trans.
