Question break-in oil

hey everyone i've been redoing my truck 1978 F150 4X4,400 engine,C6 auto, full time 4wd. I just rebuilt my engine mods, bored 40,big RV cam, edelbrock 400 performer intake and edelbrock 600 cfm carb. Could someone tell me what break oil or additives I should break the motor in with and how many miles it should take? Thanks for any answers.

Get Royal Purple break-in oil and follow the directions. The new oil formulas don't have the zinc and phosphorus content of the old oils and it is really needed for break-in, especially for the cam and lifters.

Valvoliine Racing oil. It has the extra zinc you need. Throw in a bottle of Comp Cams break in fluid.

Follow the break in instructions that came with the cam.

I used valvoline VR-1 racing oil earlier today and it seemed to work fine. It even says on the bottle it has ZDDP in it.

I would use 15-40 diesel motor oil. The other stuff doesn't have enough goodies in it that our older engines need! Its a cam thing. Since more and more cars started having overhead cams they forgot about us with push rods and lifters.

The government is cracking down because of EPA regulations but Rotella still has a zinc content of over 1,200 ppm and GM's EOS contains 1/3 more zinc than comp cams assembly lube, will use of one over the other other kill you motor? most likely not, it's just a personal decision.
