Hi all, I've done some searching here, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. College will be out this Wednesday, and i just found out that one of my classmates has a 302 EEC programed for an E40D. Now, I know down the road I'd like to make upgrades that the stock SD on my F250 460 won't support. Is it worth getting the EEC? What else should I get from him/what else would I need from other sources to make the swap successful?
The computer has to be for a MAF 302 otherwise there's no point. The only other thing he may have that's usefull to you would be the engine wiring harness, the MAF meter will be too small.
Maybe I have my terms mixed up, but isn't the EEC the computer? If I do have them mixed up, it's the 302 computer, and I know he has a harness too which in it's stock form as mated to an E40D. I don't know what else he has because I don't know what to ask for. Should I ask if he has the MAF from the 302 also or will I need something else to fit correctly for my 460?
what conanski is trying to say is that the MAF sensor is not big enough around to allow enough air to pass through it. a 460 needs a hell of alot more air than a 302.
OK, I got you now. So is the 302 computer completely un-useable or can it be reprogrammed to work with a larger MAF? I know that any computer I get will need to be reprogrammed because of the different sized injectors, so while I'm at it, could it successfully be reprogrammed to work with a larger MAF? Basically, do you think it would be worth getting anything from this guy?
if your certain you can make it work i would do it. i know there are larger MAF's in the aftermarket. but im not sure how or if you even need to reprogram the EEC.
Well, uncertainty is the reason I'm here. I know I've read a lot about grabbing a mustang 5.0 computer and harness to get MAF on the 460, but I've never seen any specifics so that's why I'm here. If it's something that is even mildly popular, I've got some very mechanically/automotively minded friends who can probably help me figure it out (one has experience with MegaSquirt even). I may look into seeing what I can figure out with this classmate.
Your project is a bit more complicated because of the transmission, you need a computer(eec processor) that can also control the tranny, so you can't really use a mustang computer because these cars never used the E4OD.
The only truck computers(eec) that are currently supported by a tuner(ie: are programmable) are the mass air computers.. be they a 5.0l, 5.8l or 7.5l version. If your friend has a regular speed density eec it's not supported and actually less compatable than the computer you already have for your 460.
