I ran into the same problem. I found it best to crimp the ends on then slide the boots over the ends. I don't remember if they provided lube or not, but it helps to use it. Vasaline will work if they didn't. I didn't cut my wire to lenght, as I was nervous about doing damage to the internal wire. but my truck ran fine till I blew up the engine a few years later.
its easy, just cut the wire to length. strip the insulation back about a half inch. fold the metal wire over and crimp the end on. be sure you crimp it tight though. and use dialectric grease to lube it.
#2 fun..... which one should i use? How do i get the metal inside the ruber boots? these are the distributor cap end.

pic #1 spark plug boots, go on the spark plug
pic #2 use the silver ones with the smaller boot
pic #3 fold that wire back so that it faces the distributor cap side and clamp the silver piece on. but make sure you have good contact between the silver piece and the wire
well obviously i dont even know why i posted that pic but how the heck am i supposed to get those metal pieces to fit in those boots. and why use the small ones?
the larger gold terminals are for HEI distributors. Just clamp the silver terminals around the wire, and push the silver terminals through the boot. sorta hard to explain, but simple to do. hope that helps
yeah i finally figured that out. so now another problem. i cant get the stupid boots on all the way. and running out of that lube stuff. won't petroleum jelly work?
