I was towing my bassboat home today in tow/haul mode. About 1 hour from home the service engine light came on. All guages were WNL, as was turbo. No message came up on the display. Truck seemed to operate just fine, but obviously this made me overly aware of every little perceived change in performance. It just turned 45,000 miles. Oil level was fine, fuel filters were changed 5 months ago Coolant OK with no puking. I will take her to the dealer ASAP to discover the cause, but its the weekend and may be Wednesday before I can get her in. Just to put my mind at ease, are there any stupid triggers for that light, such as "due for 45,000 mile service" or something like that? Any insight y'all have that I can check with no mechanical skills? Thanks!!!!
2006 f-250 6.0 (All stock, no tuner)
Just for some more information:
I had the "message center" run through it's scans and all checks out OK (coolant temp, oil level, air filter, etc)
I also looked at the transmission fluid, shows nice red color on the stick, no burnt smell, although the level looks a little high since it shows full on the "H" side of the stick and the truck is cool.
Take it to AutoZone for a free CEL scan. Let us know the code that pops up.
Great idea! The scan shows code P0261 "injector circuit low" for every cylinder. Their printout says possible causes are possibly:
1) open circuit condition
2) coil to coil short
3) FICM poor connection
4) Faulty fuel injector
I doubt if I lost all 8 injectors, so I guessing it's either fuel pressure fault or FICM, but then again, I'm an idiot. Truck seems to drive fine. Should it be OK to drive for the next few days until I can get it in to the dealer? Should this issue be covered under 10yr/100K warranty?
I would say that I am almost 98% positive that its the FICM, and lucky for you its not only covered under warranty but you will get the newest version.
Thqt would be great news. I wonder if thet will reset the code and make it re-appear before replacing it. I really don't want any surprises and would be willing to pay a little more to remove any concerns about a recurrence
Dont reset the code before brining it to the dealer. If you do they wont see it and they will say there is nothing wrong with it and you will be out 100.00, so just make the appointment and get it fixed, even if thats not it thats what waranties are for.
