My neighbor has a 76 ford w/360 that will start but when you try to give it gas or put it in gear it will die.It is hard to start the first time but then will start right back up after it dies.He wants me to look at it tonite and I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas on where to start. Thanks any help
My 74 F100 with a 360 did that when I first got it running. The fuel pump was bad. It had sat for 19 years in a barn and the diaphragm in the pump dried out and was cracked. So it would still pump a little to get the truck started (hard) and would idle ok, but would stall everytime you tried to rev it or put it in gear.
I would also look into the vacuum lines and possible even the choke. If it has an electric choke it may be stuck closed and starving the engine of air.
