Arrow first upgrades

i have a stock 2001 ford f150 supercrew xlt 4x2. it has the 4.6 motor with 355 gear tow package (wired),its overdue for some goodies.just wondering where to start. i know i want a chip for it but i want 1 that i can just hit the button and change the program (presets) i dont know how much power this will get me so if you know tell me. if the chips dont work tell me that too haha.im haveing trouble deciding what kind up pipes i need on it.what is best true duel or 1 in dual out(for looks) im looking for sound and performance i was told that this motor works better with crossover pipe or y pipe. what about true duals?? what size pipe is best? cold air intake does it really work? my truck has 96000 miles on it. 2 more payments and yahoo!

i forgot to say i also want to lift the truck 3-6 inches even though it is not a 4x4 if you know of any inexpensive ways to do this.i heard of spring spacers for 2" and spindle kits for 2.5" is there anything else i would have to replace?

Can't tell you much about the lift, but here's a few things I learned about the other mods. First, a programmer really helped me. I got a Diablo off ebay and it made a significant difference in performance, a little on gas mileage. I would stay away from the cold air intake, everything I have read seems to suggest that they make little difference and the factory system on your truck is really pretty good. The best mod I made was the electric fan - that really made a noticable difference in power. I used the Crown vic one and just bought a relay and adjustable switch. My next investment will be some long tube headers, y-pipe, and dual exhaust. I like the low-end power so I am leaning away from a true dual, plus I want to keep the emissions stuff and not have to get into too much trouble trying to pass inspections.

Good luck, read through the site, lots of good mod advice.

thanks for the info. maybe i will just stay with the 1 into 2 pipe. probably look into getting a fan like you said. the diablo chip you said you got. is it the chip that you just hit the button to change modes or do you have to turn the truck off to change the mode?

You plug into the OBD and make adjustments from there. I think it is referred to as a "tune" not a "chip".
