needed some advice 2000 F250
I am looking at buy a 2000 F250 XLT SCSB with 162000 miles. Body is black and in good cond and no accidents. Mtr is very clean with no mods although the degas bottle is 2/3 full, oil is full, tranny fluid did not seem bright red but was full. someone had spray painted the whole under carridge black,hmm, and the oil pan looked like it was rusty, but not leaking ,at one point. Dealer has no service records other than it has a new 4" lift, firestone air bags, and 35" mudders and rims. It drove okay considering those tires. No smoke at any time. Four wheel drive worked. Interior was good although no pwr seats.Got an oasis report and it show nothing major, just a couple of glow plugs and a GPR replaced and one hub. My question is is ther a proper way to road test the tranny? They are asking 12900$ cnd with a 1yr pwr train warr. what do you gurus think. Roy

12,900 CND is a decent price, but I would try to get them lower still, like $10,900 CND. The best way to road test the trans is just drive it- accelerate, slow down, manually shift the gears and just pay attention for any weirdness.

Don't forget to look inside the intake for any signs of dusting. I'd also recommend taking a small screwdriver and poking at the oil pan just to make sure they didn't paint over any severe rust. I don't know if they would consider an oil pan replacement as part of a power train warranty.
