I bought my 1985 6.9 Diesel XL F-250 Super Cab because it had a rebuilt engine and t-19 4spd transmission. The body was camo- and falling apart.
I just found a 1985 6.9 Diesel XLT 4x4 F-250 Single Cab with engine issues. Problem is it has a C-6 in it. How hard would it be to pull swap the rebuilt engine/tranny into the XLT? Moreover, convert the XLT from an auto to a Manual?
"there one of the strongest automatic trannys.... well as far as i know they are the strongest.... correct me if i'm wrong" You are not wrong. I like my T-19 Manual transmission and want to stick with it. I prefer it over the C6. I've had both.
Yes you have everything there. The only thing to watch out for is the neutral safety switch wiring. If you just unplug it from the automatic and swap the 4 speed, it's not going to start. You will need to jump the two red/blue wires together, or take the harness off the t19 and see if it will plug into the other at the clutch pedal. That would also get your reverse lights working too, since they are also made into the neutral safety switch(the other two wires).
I was thinking that it wouldn't be too bad, except the drive shafts. The donor truck is a super cab 4x2 and the truck the engine and tranny are going in is a single cab 4x4.
Are you planning on keeping the 4x4? Your gong to have to deal with the transfer case as well. I'm not sure if the transfer case from the C6 will bolt up to the T19.
I'm not sure if the T19 is the same as the C6 and ZF in this aspect, but usually to mount a transfer case to the back of a 2wd transmission, you have to replace the output shaft. On those 2 transmissions I mentioned, you pretty much have to completely disassemble them to do it. Not sure if it's the same for the T19, but something you need to look into.
In his signature he lists two trucks both being 4x4. If those are the same, the the transfer case should swap, or just swap the whole tranny/transfer together. He will have to measure the driveshafts though, and they can be shortened or lengthened if needed.

I wasnt sure cause earlier he had said that one was a 4x2 and the other was a 4x4 so thats why I threw that out there. Maybe he can let us know what he has.
Sorry for the confusion. The two trucks involved are both in my driveway. Both 1985. Truck A is the one I'm keeping. Its the 4x4 with the c6. The engine in it is not good. the C6 is probably okay. Ill pull them both out.
Truck B is the donor I'm getting rid of after the swap. It has the good 6.9 and T19 I want to put in Truck A.
