Well this is an "boy, did I screw up" question.
It appears that I backed into the garage door frame, and "scratched" my truck. DAMMIT!!!!!
Anyway, I went to the tech folder to check out how to decipher my VIN and it looks like what i'm looking for is the "vehicle certification label".
I found the info on deciphering it, but don't know where to look for the label.
So thats my question, where do I find the vehicle certification label?
The tag that is on the left door jamb is another vin tag, printed with weight specs
per axle, GVWR and, a bar code, which I think is the vin as well.
There is another tag but it is only tire info.
Any other suggestions
Based on the tech folder, this label is where lots of build info is.
Such as axle codes, cab codes, frame codes, and color codes.
And that is what i,m looking for.

It has the color code on it.
On my 99 crew cab, it's stuck to the cab between the front and rear doors down low in the rocker panel area.
I have observed that this tag falls off of many older trucks. It seems to be bad on the 01 and 02 models, but maybe others. If you can't find it anywhere in the areas suggested, it probably fell off of your truck. Do you see any spots where it looks lke the outline of a square tag about 3"x3" used to be?
Using your VIN from the windshield area, you can get the information from your dealer, or from the post that Krewat runs on this forum where volunteers look up the info.
For anyone who sees their tag starting to peel off: it appears that once it starts to go, it will peel off pretty fast. I suggest that you both try to glue it back soon, and copy the information and keep it in a safe place.
