Diff Lube For Post?
If it is a posi, what kind of Lube do I put in it?
Thanks
Most posi units will work with a GL5 compatible fluid. This type fluid is very common and available in Dino and Synthetic. You will need to add some differential additive. I use Stalube PowerLoc I think it is called. It comes in a "toothpaste" tube and you will probably need 2 for a Dana60. You can tell if you don't have enough, the rear end will "Chatter" when turning tight and slow. I would recommend something like 70W-90 weight oil for most applications. Maybe upto 140 weight for real hot locales.
Personally I use Mobil 1 synthetic and the diff additive. Some synthetics state they are not for posi so be sure to read the lable.
I think there are some brands of diff fluid that require no additives but I am not sure which.
I am not a differential expert, but I have changed all the fluids on all my vehicles for more than 30 years. Haven't blown up a rearend yet.
Good Luck,
