Hey guys, I have a 95 4.9 2wd m5od. I am trying to find out what the best code reader/scanner would be for our obd1 systems. I know there are a load of units out there that will allow you to read any stored trouble codes, but what I am trying to locate is the scanner unit that also lets you see all the sensor info in real time. The units I have seen so far say they are compatable with obd1. I just have not seen anything stating they do more than read codes. I know there is something like it out there because I had seen a mechanic friend plug into an 89 Dodge and look at all the sensors. Surely there has to be a similar situation for our obd1 trucks. Thanks for any info thrown my way.
There are other ways to look at all the sensors and activate all the relays and solenoids besides a scanner.
I have test equipment that will do that and even record the values so you can look at them later when you quit test driving the truck.
What other ways are there to look at sensor info besides a scanner?
Sure I have an EEC-IV Monitor and also an Monitor Recorder to plug into that if I want to save the values.
Also for the Ignition system there is a tester that I have for the PIP & ICM.
This is the test items Ford used at one time on the EEC-IV systems.

Check out Actron Autoscanner at Jegs from the list of sponsors. May be the sort of thing you are looking for.
Yes, I can retrieve codes all day long. I want to see the actual sensor outputs sort of like a data stream I guess. What I am trying to do is compare two identical trucks that seem to run completely different. They both start and idle fine. They just feel like two totally different engines under the hood. Neither one shows any codes and run fine. One feels like a mild small block and the other feels like a briggs and stratton.

Reason: incomplete
Thanks MEDF150, I will have to check into it. It seems to be a 9185 with a case, I wonder why it is referred to as a 9190. If the 9185 can display live sensor info, I will jump on it.

Let us know what you buy and if it can display live sensor info.
I see you have 95 5.0 and I have heard somewhere that they can only display live sensor info on 94-95 SFI and OBD-II trucks.
Let us know if this is true and what you find between the two trucks.

Do the trucks have the same axle gearing and tire size?
