having a problem
I have a 93 E350 and having some issues with it, pardon me for asking this as I am sure it has been asked before, I did search but I am on a 1x connection and it keeps booting me off. ok here goes
my van has 148k on it, always a solid runner before this issue. it started idling high and also has a hard starting problem. There is no check engine light on and I have not run the codes yet, If I unplug the AIS the idle does drop to around 750-800 and will die out if I do not keep the foot on the gas while at a stop sign. I have tried different AIS and TPS, off of a known good running 5.0L (mine is a 351) I have sorted through vacuum lines and did not find any leaks. I did replace the fuel filter at 147k but that was long before the problem started, (the old filter was very hard to blow through. The hard starting issue is more like a NO starting issue unless I use a bit of starting fluid to get it to pop over, with that known it almost makes me think that it is a fuel problem, I do not have a fuel pressure tester but that is my next step after this post. Sometimes it will start up like nothing is wrong and the idle will climb from there, wich makes me think that it might be a temp senor fail that is telling the computer to kick the idle up. the dash temp gauge does seem to be working good. I am not sure wich sensor it is that feeds the computer for the high idle circuit. I am not sure on what other imput you guys might need. The cat is hollow, otherwise all stock. it has recent cap/wires/rotor and air filter. Oh It did have a problem shifting into overdrive the last time I drove it, I plan to tackle that next (fluid/filter,ect..) That was when it was about -25 outside.
any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance -Dave

yes IAC is what I was referring to by "AIS" I grew up working on 80's mopars and that is what controls the idle on them
I just used a code scanner with a beep output and this is what I got from it.
either, this
12
11
21
11
11

or if it is a 3 digit code,
121
121
111
111
I am guessing it's a 3 digit, can anyone confirm this? will a faulty tps cause a hard/no start? this is still a koeo test, I am going to clear the codes again and run them, I did not run it 10 miles like suggested by the trouble code site that I used..
