I just wonder if it'd be easier to cut the dash panels, and morph the 80-86 opening into a 73-79 dash panel. conceivably, if both panels are flat enough, and remotely close to the same size, could that work?
I know thats more of a mod. than originaly posted, but hey, I'm planning on customizing as much inerior as I can. lol but, making it look like it could have been factory.
not sure if you could easily put the 80-86 gauge cluster in a 73-79, sure putting it in is the easy part, but the wiring harness is the real trick, i imagine the 80-86 cluster has a totally different connection than the 73-79 trucks, it would be some work wiring it all up, i am sure it could be done, but like i said its not plug and play, i think a square tach from a Nova/Malibu would be the best bet, as long as there dimensions fit in the vent hole on the 73-79 dash? that is something you have to find out

You would have to wire your own circuts, as the light panel above for all the turn signals etc, are on top in the rectangles above. You would have to get seperate lamps for those as this section would have to be cut off of the 1980-1986 cluster, thus making the printed circut useless. The speedo has the same connection. And all the gauges have posts on them to accept wire nuts, and the IVR takes a 9v type connection you could get at radio shack. The only thing is the dash panel illumination lights. And there are special light sockets you can get that have wires on them.
It's theoreticly possible to do. But would require fabrication. Not for the light hearted by any means.
I'm half tempted to start measuring newer turck dash's anyway. to see if I can get one to fit enought to fiberglass the rest of the way. I dont know, I guess I've never been one to leave well enough alone. lol
when I got my '76 it had a dash from a late 90's in it. It fir but I didn't like the look of it. They cut out the complete dash from the '76 all the way up to the windshield and the new dash fit in that spot.
so it fit like it should have? I'm curious now, the less fiberglassing the better. lol if it'd go right in and look factory, that'd be sweet! lol was that like a 96 dash, or a 97-99 dash?

Interesting about the dash, that would be cool to see. There is another thread on here that has some pics of a dentside with either a newer dodge or superduty dash in it.
Not my tach but I did like unrulee, but with my vacuum gauge. I cut a piece of wood to fit in the A/C vent a little loose and then stretched some t-shirt material over the wood and fiberglassed it. I have my tach mounted on top of the dash.
