I found a bed to replace my rotted one ,when I go to pick it up how many guys do I need to lift it, how heavy is the bed. I picked mine off with our tractor so I have no idea what it take to lift by hand. Any input is appreciated.
I'd say at least four. It took me on one side, and my brother, cousin and step dad on the other side. Their side still managed to scrub a bit of paint off the bumper because they didn't lift it high enough. Definitely take the tailgate off, and be sure to disconnect the wiring and remove the filler nozzle (or properly disconnect it). I'd sit the mounting beams on blocks when you sit it down, or the bottom edges could buckle under. I'm about to go get a bed pretty soon. Removing the bumper helps, you don't have to lift it as high. (by the way, mine's a long bed)
Well; I'm always a slow learner; I use 3 on long beds and 2 of us on short bed. My back been shot for 25 plus years. The comments mention prior to mine; above are on the money, remove of the tailgate only talk a 9/16 rachet an d the fuel hose phillips. I recommend if two guys are tall, put them up front and the average to short folks behind the wheels, makes clearance easier.
Man I need more neighbors to use / have 4!!!
well the good news is the bed is in a barn standing on end so all I have to do is back my trailer in and lay it across sideways because it wont fit between my sides. I got 3 other guys going so i should go smooth. At home is easy to lift with the JD with a bucket.
Transport it upside down too. The top is much stronger and easier to position then the bottom. If you're careful and pad it somehow, you won't even scratch it.
I got my bed from a yard that normally carries stuff from the late-'90s to the present. They were shocked at the weight of the '74 Ford bed. They couldn't believe how much more substantial the old beds were back then.
me (22) and my dad (50) picked up a long bed off of a truck I bought so that I could tear it apart to build a new bed. Neither of us were particularly strong either.
It was a struggle but you just gotta know your limits...
