Even if you don't have emission testing be sure to keep the cat and the air cleaner housing for when feds decide to test everything right off the road. At this point most tests are just visual....the cat needs to be in place and very little smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Some states are now looking for mods that are not ARB certified ie. chips, modified air filters & exhaust systems.

Jim, what do you mean by 'keep the air cleaner housing'. I keep the cat but throw out the air cleaner housing, surely they don't care about that, do they? Glenn

Before I had a DiamondEye downpipe/exhaust system installed, I contacted the local DEQ guys.

As most of us know, if your rig came from the factory (regardless of model year) with a cat installed, it is a Federal requirement to have it there no matter what you do to the exhaust system.

I live in Nampa (Canyon County) Idaho and there is no emission testing on diesels currently. The shop (Ada County) wouldn't swap out the cat and DiamondEye didn't even send the test pipe with the kit.

I'm ok with the kit I received. It wasn't what I thought was ordered. The installer did give me a discount so I paid less than what was originally quoted.

I contacted the manufacturer and the installing shop about it. I wanted the Stainless Steel kit (Lifetime Warranty) but I got the Aluminized kit (One Year Warranty). Long story short...DiamondEye wouldn't help; said contact the installer. I contacted the installer; never heard from him.

When it's time to replace the DiamondEye system, I think I'll be looking at MBRP. Funny thing is, DiamondEye was recommended by the two diesel guys at my local dealership that I trust. One of the guys has a DiamondEye system on his rig.

Don't get me wrong. I like the way it sounds. My MPG has gone up. I don't have gauges, so I don't know about EGTs. I don't tow heavy items, just my 24' travel trailer and I'm not a heavy hauler, so EGTs are not a major concern at the moment. I still want to install gauges soon.

That's my nickel's worth on exhaust systems.

Will after reading your post i contacted my local muffler shop to install the diamond eye exhaust system. I did talk to him about the downpipe clearance with the cab, he said no problem he's done others and said he would it for 150.00 When I went to pick it up he told me he had a heck of a time installing it. He told me some of the new words he made up while installing it, I guess things didn't go well.

The owner of the installing shop is disabled (one are is a prosthetic) and his partner is missing a good portion of one finger.

These two guys installed my system, including cutting and bending the lip on the firewall, in about five hours. Charged me around $150 or so for the install.

I watched and was able to help out in some areas, but I couldn't convince them to take a lunch break so I could work on the cat. All-in-all, the system sounds nice and turbo sings her song. I'll keep the system as is, but I don't plan on being a repeat DiamondEye customer.

I got my system through Tymar, which I believe is the diamond eye product. I installed it myself, seemed to fit fine. I also used exhaust band clamps and just used the supplied clamps for hooking into the existing hangers. It was tight up agianst the body where it goes over the rear axel but I made it work. Bending the firewall seam was a pain, probably would of been quicker with a portapower. I even used some of the heat wrap from the old down pipe to wrap around it. It was tight and took a few trial fits but it made it.

I know it may be more extensive than you want to go but, if you are going to do a lot of towing you might want to think about switching to 4:10 gears.
