Just re read the whole unplug your EGR in the tech folder, after I removed the T-plate is this all I need to do on the 04 truck or do I need to block of the EGR cooler ? or is that only if the truck is a 05and up ? thanks
Well the truck is now out of warranty and i just want it to run as long as it can, I can't seem to find a great 6.0 tech near my home So it's up to me and a lot of advice from this site.
With the 03's and 04's we dont have the scoop so its pretty easy to bypass the EGR cooler. Just take off the uppipe and block off (plate) or cut and plug weld the Y that goes to the EGR cooler (making it a solid uppipe). IMHO I dont think the EGR cooler delete is necissary for what I want out of my truck. As long as there isn't hot EGR going back through my engine bringing the engine temps up (and lowering my engine displacement with dead air) i'm fine with coolant going through the lines and not cooling EGR
I suspected my EGR cooler was leaking, once I removed it....it was not. It is now sitting on my workbench all alone....none of my tools will talk to it...hahaha
did you have to remove the cab like in the pictures? and why not the whole delete kit?
I may be wrong but i'm pretty sure you dont have to remove the cab to remove the EGR cooler (most people wouldnt do it if it was that labor intensive ) I didnt wanna spend $$ on a delete kit that wasn't necissary. It depends on who you talk to though just like most mods Coolant filter, etc. I think the only unamimous mod that we all agree works is bigger exhaust lol
I am in the market for functionality and longevity.
No the cab does not have to come off. Man if I could take the cab off I would have finished in 30 minutes...just kidding. It would have made it 500 times easier to do.
P.S. Nate....I just changed my first coolant filter (1k miles)...HOLY S**T!!!! The stuff that came out when I turned it over!!!! I am waiting for it to dry to tear it open.

I can imagine...I have pretty good faith in my buddy that runs a diesel shop here and he told me a coolant filter (although cool ) isn't necissary. Different strokes for differnt folks though haha

If you run a coolant filter for 3k miles and then you open it up and see lots of sand and hard, abrasive solids ........ then the coolant filter was an absolute necessity.
If you run it for 3k and you open it up and see nothing, then it probably wasn't necessary.
No way to know for sure but to install it. There are WAY too many people finding lots of crud to deny its benefits.
That being said, some people have installed it and seen nothing. They are out $100 or so. Those that have iinstalled it and filtered out lots of crud are way ahead in $$'s over the long run (and this has been the experience of many, many people).
It is all a matter of deciding the extent that you will go to care for your engine.
I had the solids. I had them analyzed - they were largely silica. There was enough (and large enough particles) to plug the oil cooler passages eventually and erode the water pump impellor. I am one of those that is $$'s ahead.
Hate to beat a dead horse but, had the classic surging and blowing huge clouds of black smoke while under load. Took truck to the local powerstroke doctor, he couldn't duplicate so he flashed it, didn't fix it. I unplugged the EGR and holy cow it runs as good as new. It's a CA truck so I got the CEL. I suppose it's time for an EGR delete. Anyone try the ones on ebay?
It's not something you want to "try". If you're going to do it, do it right. Get a full kit from First Coast Diesel Performance. However you are in CA so you might have issues come emissions testing time. I think Liberator has a kit that is removable.
