02 explorer
i've just had my faithful old suburban written off and i'm thinking of buying a 2002 explorer xlt with 100,000km on it (about 65,000 miles). it's very clean and when i test drove it it felt quite good but it seemed that getting it into 4x4 seemed a little complicated, especially 4x4 low. it wouldn't go in unless i was in neutral and at a complete stop, which is fairly common, but it wouldn't come out very easily. could someone tell me if there are conditions on when you can shift into 4x4 high and low and then back into 4x2?

Any time you go into or out of 4x4 LOW you have to be stopped, in neutral and have your foot on the brake. These systems get a bit sticky from non-use also. I always run mine through the 4x4 shift and back every week or so. I have had my F150 not want to come out of 4x4 until I cut it off and restart it but that only happened once right after I got it.
