steering question

I'm getting used to the steering in the 2000 excursion I've had for a week now. It tracks well and the steering feels firm. The steering effort seems a little high and on turns I often have to bring the wheel back to center manually. It tends to want to continue the turn, even if the wheel is released.

Could this indicate that the steering box has been overtightened?

It could also be an alignment issue.
