Yup, I figure who cares about the inside edge of the wheel. I also like to get the lifetime balance that the Firestone I usually purchase tires from offers. Their lifetime alignment is a good deal as well.
I've had that lifetime plan as well but when I got the Pirelli tires I stopped taking it to them. Do you know if the plan applies to a different brand of tires also?
Just for your information, not all wheel weights are lead. There are a lot zinc ones out there, I've found the zinc ones are mostly stick on. Also the lead is something like 90% lead, 8% tin and 2% antimony, which makes them great for casting hard bullets so if you can send me all of them you need to get rid of.

Yeah, figured that out yesterday. Kind of already knew that though.

I've built a good relationship with a tire company. Bought several sets of tires and had them do several big repair jobs (A/C type stuff). Whenever I take my car in to get a tire plugged/patched or rebalanced, they absolutely refuse to take any money from me. One time the owner, after I asked him how much I owed him, told me to just go slip the tech a five dollar bill.

Must be nice. Hell of a deal right there, can't go wrong.
I just had a new set of BFG Rugged Trail's installed. I specifically asked for no visible weights on the rim. They then placed them on the inside and inner rim lip. One of the rim had a ton of weights applied to one side of the rim. Their answer was to add more, I told them to bust the tire off the bead, remove the weights, and rotate it 180. After that it balanced with one minimal weight. A trick most tire shops don't do since it takes more time than adding a ton of weight in one spot.
I firmly believe in NOT sitting in a wait area when any work is being performed on my vehicles. I want to see what is being done and how. Challenge any posting that you cannot be in the work area. As long as you don't get in the way, you can watch work being performed.
I've got an 01 superduty that I put centramatics (automatic wheel balancers) on a few years ago. They go on between the wheel and hub and they do work as advertised. The new tires I had put on the truck just after I got the centramatics were balanced prior to being put on the truck. After I left the tire shop and headed down the road the truck was vibration free and after I got up to speed (about 65mph) the wheels started tossing off the weights (aftermarket aluminum wheels) but they all stayed in perfect balance. When I got home I discovered that a couple of the wheels had lost every lead weight that was put on them but they were still in perfect balance. 25000 miles later they are still perfectly balanced thanks to the centramatics. These things were 50 bucks per wheel but well worth it as the tires will never have to be balanced again. I would definitely recommend them and I'll never have a 3/4 ton or heavier truck again without them.
I used the white airsoft bbs that are sold in walmart on some 33" mud tires. I used the chart on the innovative balancing site and added 2 extra oz per tire and don't feel a thing. You do hear the beads fall onto the rim when you stop. The tire bead will need to be broken to get the airsoft in.
