C6 leaking
Greetings all,
I just replace the tranny filter & gasket on my 78 F150 (C6) last week. This morning I noticed a puddle of tranny fluid on the floor. It's not the pan that's leaking, it's the nylon-looking thingy in front of the linkage lever that goes into the tranny. Is this the kick-down lever? I don't have a kick-down linkage from the carb, but it looks like it used to.
Is there a seal or something I can get to stop this leak? Can I do it without removing the pan?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
K.

C6 leaking
Man, I know this doesn't help you out to much. But I have the same problem! I got my mechanic to do a filter and gasket change on my C6 and few days later I checked under the truck and there was a nice downhill leak on the pavement. I checked it out and it is leaking out of the selector that goes into the tanny. I was kind of:-( , I do really hope that someone does reply to your question, b/c im waiting for an anwser 2.

C6 leaking
I've seen this happen a few times when the tranny is overfilled with fluid. Check the tranny fluid level normally, and if the stick shows a very high full level then that's probably what it is. You can drain some out with a clean axle filler pump and a lot pickup tube. A standard filter/fluid change doesn't effect the linkage at all.
Hope this helps. Polkat

C6 leaking
>you need to replace the nut
Is that because it's a lock nut that doesn't lock anymore?
>and readust the band (120 in lbs
>or 10ft lbs off 1 1/2 turns screw on new nut hold screw from
>turning)
What do you mean by "10ft lbs off 1 1/2 turns" ? I don't understand. Could be it's just monday and I'm not awake yet.
Thanks!

C6 leaking
I'm going through all this right now. I'm rebuilding my C6 and am about done with assembly. The nut on the band adjusting screw has a rubber seal on the back of it. With time, this will start to leak. When installing a new nut, you have to re-adjust the band. To do this, start the new nut on the screw, adjust the screw to 120 in/lbs (or 10 ft/lbs) Then, back the screw off EXACTLY 1 1/2 turns. Hold the screw from turning and tighten the lock nut down. You will need a special socket to adjust the band. Either a 5/16" square socket, or what I found at Sears. It's a 3/8" drive 8 point socket 5/16" in size. It fits the adjusting screw perfectly.
