Van Running Hot...Please Help!

I have a 1995 E150 with the 351W. I recently changed my oil and tuned it up, and it's running very hot. By that I mean that instead of the temperature staying between the "O" and "R" on the "NORMAL" range, now it's running between the "A" and "L." I replaced my water pump, thermostat, and all the hoses associated with those parts in December so I know it's not them. Also, when I turn the van off there's a coolant leak coming from somewhere around the transmission, and the chassis behind my front right tire was wet with coolant. By the way, when I pulled the doghouse, there was some coolant pooled at the top of there the engine meets the tranny. I would appreciate any help or advice I can get.

On my 1986 there is a cross over pipe to the right of the heater core, attached under the cowl, that supplies the rear heater. It sounds like it might be leaking from that point, probably around a hose clamp.

If your system does not stay pressurized, then you can expect the system to run hotter.

That makes sense because my rear heat hasn't worked since about January. Would a bad crossover pipe explain the pooled coolant above the tranny?

Coolant leak...

My '95 Conv. van had an intake manifold bolt break. The rearmost one on the driverside...it goes into a coolant passage and I lucked out and got a drill bit in there and dimpled the broken end of the bolt enough to get an easyout in to back the boltend out. Dodged the bullet on that one!

Yeah you have to get in there and check that network of hose and tubing by the heater core and leading to the rear heater (if equipped). Also take a look at the hoses to the throttle body etc. I had a similar issue, I don't recall which hose it was anymore, the coolant was dripping down though and then getting blown back so it was hard to find the exact leak. I just changed everything out before they discontinue the parts. Oh and now I've got a corrosion leak in the undercar portion of the steel line to the rear heater. Might as well check that too while you're at it.
