Gonna change the fuel filter out in my Lightning (dont know when it was ever done before) and I hear that you need to "unpressurize the fuel system"
I searched and didn't come up with anything.
How would I go about doing that? My 86 was much easier
O and yes I have the fuel line disconnect tool.
Thanks
I pulled out the plug-in fuel pump relay and then cranked the engine with the starter-the fuel system will depressurize. Otherwise-the fuel system is under residual pressure and the gas will spray everywhere when you remove the filter.
Before removing the filter-remove the negative cable from the battery---we don't want electricity in the truck when the fuel system is opened.
Why not just press a small screwdriver into the schrader valve on the fuel rail? Might want to lay a rag down near the valve because the fuel should squirt out of there.
Pulling the fuel pump relay or fuse then starting the engine is easiest method and one I think works best. Depressurizing at the schraeder valve works too, but you have to find a rag to keep fuel from spraying everywhere.
Just remove the gas cap...that's all.
that will only relieve any pressure that might be in the tank. It won't relieve any pressure in the fuel lines between the tank and the engine.
