I've noticed for some time (about 5 years...lol) that the "gap" between the body and door on my truck is quite narrow in front and a bit wide on the back side....
Seems that "shimming" the hinges where they meet the body would be the solution for this....
Is this correct, or are they adjusted some other way?
and if so....Are there special shims that have to be used, or should I just seek out some washers?
If you remove the inner door pannel the hinge mounts inside the door have a lot of "slide" available. When you take them loose the height can change also. It takes a few attempts to get it right all around.
mark your hinges before you start messing around. Like red said, the hinges have a lot of play. they attach to nuts that are allowed to move a certain amount. The hinges mounted to the cab will help you raise the door up/down and take any twist out of it, the ones behind the door panel will let you move the door left/right also allowing the door to twist. I took a paint pen and drew around the hinges before i moved them so i could get back to where it was if needed. Its easy to get things out of whack, the doors arent light.
