Well this problem is one for the books....I think

I have a 1993 f-150 with 5.0 and a e4od transmission approx 200k on the engine.

Problem: If I connect the plug to the solenoid Pack...and apply gas the engine will spit and sputter then die. I can put it back into park and it will start right up no problem. The trans will go into all gears however (D) starts out in 3rd.
If i disconnect the harness the engine runs great no problem, but the trans still will not start out in 1st once I put into drive

Things I've done:
1. Check'd and re check'd the continuity of the wiring bundle.
2. Checked all fuses and relays.
3. Pulled my hair out and banged my head over and over on the trans
pan...still nothing

please keep in mind I know just enough about engines and trannys to get into trouble not a gear head ......yet

 

Not an expert but sounds like a problem in the trans solenoid block. What do the error codes say?
