Need landscaping help

Every year, I clean out and weed on both sides of my walk, house, and flower beds. Put down new mulch and it looks great for about two weeks. Then the weeds start again. I've got landscape fabric down under the mulch and I use Turf Builder with weed control which has helped to get rid of the crabgrass but I still can't keep the weeds back. They even grow up through the landscape fabric.

Round-up has been little or no help. What is a great weed killer? I mean besides the neighbor's dog that whizzes on everything killing the grass too. I've got Liropes planted on each side of the walk also and they are spreading faster than Smallpox. I keep having to pull them just to try to keep them from clumping together. Is there any way to keep them from spreading like that?

Also, what is a good edging tool to get a professional look without having to buy really expensive equipment? Thanks in advance folks!

A buddy of mine that works at the hospital here gave me a Mountain Dew bottle full of some gold liquid one day when we were talking about this stuff. Told me it would kill anything and keep it that way for at least a year. I tried it and it worked. Next day, I went outside, bagged up three dead birds and noticed the weeds were brown. Two weeks later, weeds were back but I haven't seen any birds here for a while...guess word must have gotten out to the other birds.

Some weird crap is all I know. Every time I hit it with the Round-up, it's almost like the weeds are laughing. The crabgrass was the worst next to this crap. It grew through the fabric too. I haven't put plastic down because it would kill my other plants by blocking rain from getting to them. I don't know what else to do besides just weeding them out periodically.

Well. You brought up the urine thingee with the dogs. There's a patch off my front porch about 2' by 2' in which NOTHING grows.......Something about whizzing off the front porch which brings me back to nature......

Thanks Jim. I'd been using a straight hoe and it wasn't working too well. My father-in-law has a small power edger but it's not the greatest. Question about Sahara...will it kill the lawn too or does it just target the weeds?

There are times that I'd just as soon have the Sahara.

It is not selective at all, and will kill everything in the soil for at least a year.
Works great on gravel driveways, industrial sites, road shoulders and the like, but be careful of run off.

There are other BASF products mentioned in the linked pdf that may work better for your situation.

Around the home I'm still using an ancient gallon of ******* Professional concentrate for the most stubborn weeds, you can mix it a little stronger if need be.
This one is so old the formula calls for Atropine as antidote. (70's-80's?)
But it does work on poison ivy and everything else

Jim, is the Sahara available to the public or do you have to be a landscaper? If it's available to the public, I'll get some.
