Well, I bought a nice leather jacket a few weeks ago and someone decided to walk off with it, and my keys. Could a locksmith grind me a new key for it or will I have to bring it to a dealer? I called the local one and they want 25 dollars per key, I have to buy 2, I have to have the truck towed to them and 95 dollars to grind the keys. I cant believe I really have to put out over 300 dollars just for a damned key.
Get new keys. They have to be programmed. Ask your insurance (Homeowners) to reimburse you. After you get the 2 keys, purchase some from E-bay and have them cut and program them yourself. ALWAYS have at least 3 keys so that if you loose 1 you will be able to program another using the remaining 2. I keep 4 keys for each vehicle. The wife has 1, I have 1. There is 1 in the drawer. And last but not least my Father-in-law has 1. It's always a good idea to have somebody who can bring you a key in an emergency.
