sorry guys iv been reading tons about exhaust but i just cant decided what to do. n/a 7.3 My neighbor does costom exhaust and just got a bunch of 4" in. Iv found contradicting info saying less back pressure the better and then you need some backpressure to keep the power band near stock.
What really is a good set up for a mild n/a 7.3? I was planning on keeping the y pipe stock and then going to 3" to a glass pack and then to 3.5.
I want a that deep diesel sound and dont want to sacrifice preformance.
You dont need any back pressure, it would probably run better if the exhaust would suck a vacuum.
The best running and pulling na I have owned is the one I put in my highboy and all I used from the stock y was about 6 inches from the manifold on each side and I used large pipes from a school bus. On that highboy I didn't have to bend them much so I had almost straight duals 3 inch if I remember right, straight off the manifolds.
Thanks thats good to know I guess Ill just go with the 4" either from the y back or see what we can fab up to eliminate the y and put a glass pack in.
When you guys use glasspacks do they need to be hollowed out or left alone. Iv heard heat them up and pour water in them which I can do I just dont want to find out I needed to do it after its installed.
i have a glass pack on mine cuz i didnt like how loud it was straightpiped all it did was rap after i put a glass pack on it took away 90% of the rap and quieted it down a little i left the packing in mine
Dont use a slow master tho. They create alot of backpressure compared to other race mufflers.
Heating a glass pack and pouring water on it does one thing. I cracks the fiberglass and it breaks and falls out, leaving you with a ruined muffeler and basically straight pipes.
