Need a little more info. I am guessing 5.0 in the 87-91 truck in your sig? If so...you are a bit limited in the fact it's a speed density efi. It will only accept small changes and still run decent. Cold Air Intakes and Exhaust Improvements are where you can begin without much trouble.
SD will handle quite a bit before the maps get screwy. Conanski will probably be by to let you know some more details, but this exact question has been covered dozens of times this month alone.
Biggest thing you can do for RIGHT NOW get up and go is to open up the exhaust. Decent headers and a single 2 1/2" pipe back will get you the most value for money. After that, look into a cam swap. There are a number of SD friendly cams available.
Advance your timing a few deg.. They like long tube headers with a good exhaust ..They like a cam with alot of lift or differant ratio rockers if you dont want to get into the motor ..Gears will help alot ..Lew
well i already have the flowmasters on it, i think there the 44s(came with the truck) and a cold air intake, what does that run around for and whats a good brand
cold air intakes are a heavily argued subject. go to the junkyard and get the air inlet tube off a 4.9l straight six or 460 efi truck which gets the air from behind the grill instead of over the rad support like the 5.0/5.8 trucks do and then get yourself a k&n drop in air filter which goes in the stock airbox. thats about the most efficient intake setup. also headers are a good upgrade along with some 1.7 roller rockers, since i see in your other thread your pulling the valve covers anyways so that would be a good time to add the 1.7 rockers
for the long tube headers, what brand you say is the best, and the rockers were just replaced so i dont want to replace them with less than 200 miles on them
most of the aftermarket ones are good, such as flowtech or heddman. go with longtubes with a custom y pipe into a 2.5" single for the best performance.
obviously my 76 302 is a little different, but i like the power and sound the true dual exhaust gives me. two 2 1/4 inch pipes through cherry bomb glass packs. sounds mean, runs meaner. of course i do have a racing cam and a bore job helpin me out, but without the exhaust, it just wouldnt be the same.
