What type of hotel are you looking for? The Holiday Inn Express is the nicest one in town. If you want an authentic old west experience, the Overland is the place. I would stay away from any of the other locally owned outfits, but there's also many chains that are, well, average I guess, Motel 6, Super 8, Comfort Inn, Best Western, etc. If you've stayed in one before they're pretty consistent with what you'd expect anywhere. Motel 6 is technically closest to the track, being on the south end of town, but it's still 12 miles out.
You can camp in the pits at Top Gun, I'm just not sure if they open it up Friday night or Saturday morning. If you're looking to stay in an RV park I would recommend the Fallon RV park over the other one.
great info Michelle...i'm trying to find out if they'll open the gates on Friday also...doesn't look like it..i'm planning on driving up Thursday after work and staying in an RV park until Saturday morning, then moving to the track and leaving Sunday..
There are cats in the Stillwaters and Clan Alpines east of town, sometimes they follow the river to the edges of town. I'll have to ask the Mr if there's any particular spot that's good.
Could someone get a list of events for the Vegas, Reno and surrounding areas? I will supply a list for Elko and surrounding area including Wendover. I know we have a car show later in the year as well as speed week on the salt flats.
After I get the lists I will post a master list and then we can figure out the best time for everybody to get together.
