Funny,,, funny...

The shop where I am going to run our 434 on the dyno called, and said that he had bad news..."at this point, I'm thinking what now" Then he says that his dyno only goes up to 1,000 hp. He says that he runs mostly chevy's on his dyno, and said that everyone knows that a stock 390 puts out over 1,000 hp,, so he would have to run our FE at half throttle....
ha, ha, ha,,, i told him...
His real reason to call was to tell me his dyno would be available next week, so we should be able to get a pull at that time.
Anyway,,, since he is a chevy guy,, I told him I hope our FE breaks his dyno...
Those who laugh last laugh loudest.
Bad,, thought,,, hope the 434 does not break on his dyno,,, I would never hear the end of it.

Hahaha thats great. Oh you'd never hear the end of it no matter how big or small the problem was. I hope it leaves him wide eyed and wanting one of his own. Down with the SB chevys!! Good luck at the dyno!

Just brought the Falcon home from the suspension shop. The new front axle is in. The new disc brakes, master cylinder, line lock, proportioning valve are all installed. Should stop on a dime. The carb is done, so next week should be the time to fire it up.

Boy Lloyd you meen to tell me after a year you finally got the carb rebuilt?? LOL.. Gotta watch them Chevy guy's doing a Dyno tune on your ford !! As they get confused real east if they dont have to reach around back to adjust the timing!! They get confused with left being right and right being left!! LOL..

Since you have the Dyno time rented...I dont know how there shop is set-up...I'd check into what things they have there for extra's for tuning an FE.. But I'd take a one step smaller carb, a one step bigger carb, a couple of different size spacer plates for under the carb, and a couple different intakes, I dont know if you have already had the Dizzy recurved yet? Or if they have the capabilities to do so at the shop your going too? I'd also take a couple different heat ranges of plugs also...

And if at all possible ?? I'd also try and use the header's your going to run in the Falcon with it..that way the motor is just a drop in and track ready except for suspension tuning to the track conditions.. As usual JMO...I probably forgot something its 5:30am ..LOL

Good Luck Lloyd and kep us posted!!

It will be nice to see your dyno numbers when you get them. Good luck.

I set up the dizzy the other day. I will adjust the timing myself. With modern computer programs, changing carbs, intakes, cams, etc. can be simulated fairly well. I have a 4150 "850 cfm" Holley that I just rebuilt, so I am good with that.
I am looking for hp and torque readings for this setup, so the only things I am changing on the dyno is timing, carb jetting and headers. I will initially use their headers because they have a probe outlet. Once we have the engine dialed in, with their headers, I will switch to ours and see what the readings say. The program suggests using Champion 59 or 61 spark plugs. I like Autolite, so I bought a set of Autolite 2593's which are a crossover for c61 plugs. I will purchase a set of C59 plugs and see if they make a difference.
Thanks Rouge427, I will post the numbers when I get them.

Thanks Maxtor. I have a 428PI that I built and woundering how close it is to yours. 428PI .030 over, ED heads with mild porting to match the RPM intake and gasket, 770 Holly Truck avanger, Ross pistons for 10.5:1 with 76cc heads. Comp 292 cam with roller lifters and end stands. My guss is I have over 400 HP. Any thoughts are welcome.

I just ran your figures and guessed on some needed input, and with the comp cams program it shows:

526.7 hp @ 6000 rpm
528 torque

With our engine, the comp cams program shows 678 hp which in my opinion is way high, it should be around 600 hp, but I would think in your case, 475- 500 hp would be a reasonable figure.
I am assuming you meant roller rockers.

Well without knowing what the heads flow...I'd say in the neighborhood of 500hp... Just guesstimating... I have a friend with tootsie rolled Edheads and a little better CR...and 2- 4's and a lager flat tappet cam..and he's making according to his race weight and ET's about 575hp..
