I have had 4 Super Duty trucks and the doors on my
08 are by far the noisiest ever. I have already adjusted
the door strikers as for back as the will go and there
is still a little play in the door. Any other ideas.
Thanks
Brian
Run vinyl or silicone hose inside the rubber door seals. Mine weren't loose, but I used 3/8" on the drivers side and 1/4" on the pass side and now you have to close the doors to get them shut. It's a nice tight fit.
I have the same problem on my 99' SD (feb of 99'). I thought it was just a burp with the new body style. (Just like it was under braked and under horsepowered!) I'll have to try the hose trick.
What determined you buying two different thickness'?
I messed up. I bought 1/4 first, it didn't seem big enough when I pulled my first seal off. So I went back for 3/8"s. I ran 3/8" in the fronts and the pass side wouldn't close. I pulled out the 3/8" in the pass and ran the 1/4" in it. I ran 3/8" in the rear and the drivers side just would close, and the pass side was really tight. So I swapped the pass side out with the 1/4" too.
Most people seemed to have good luck with the 3/8", but I didn't want to change my body alignment on the pass to live with it.
peel them off, run a fish (fish wire or tape) through the seal, tape the hose to the fish and pull it back through. Silicone lube or vinyl protectors will make the tube slide easier. There is a pretty decent thread on the job in the excursion forum on how to do this.
I did mine on the door way back then -) lot's of soapy water (wife's still mad at me for using all her dishwashing liquid) and just pushed it through... didn't know hOw to take it off
That gets rid of the squeaks I have but not the door rattle!!
I had a rattle/tapping noise that was driving me crazy. I tried everything. Took the door panels of, used foam and tape on everything that moved, nothing worked. Then I sprayed the latches in the door and it's been quiet for a year now.
