yes i know. could it just be the computer going?? i all ready did that and cant find anything

Usually computers are work/don't work. No real in between state. I'd just hate to see you drop money on a computer and have it not be the problem, see if you can also pull the computer out of that ranger.

im hopeing i can get the truck cheap from him because he wraped it around a tree and i was in bad shape before that

ok i think i got it. when i start it in gear it reves up like that. but if it is in nutral i dont do it. i beleve this is what is makeing it do it

As far as I know , at least my ranger doesn't have a neutral safety switch. I suppose your clutch may be dragging a bit, causing it make the engine work a bit harder to get the transmission upto speed. Have you had trouble shifting lately?

i still have to push the clutch in even if it is in neutral. i think i do get a code if it is in gear.

I'm saying your clutch may not be fully releasing - which is why I asked if you have been having some difficulty going into some gears , usually down shifting.

nope it shifs just fine. the clutch is new about 6000 miles ago

i just scanned it and when i put it in gear i get 67 o

67 o is neutral safety circuit failure. Maybe your neutral safety switch has failed?

i honestly have no idea. My 87 Ranger 2.9 w/5 spd starts the same whether it is in neutral or in gear. Then again my idle valve is not the best.
