I have a 1995 Ford Ranger 4X4, 5 speed, 4.0 V6, extended cab It had a pulsating rumble around 55 and up.. I found the rubber in the drive shaft carrier bearing was bad. You could just move the shaft all around. I replaced it. Now it has a lot rougher rumble and it starts at 43 and is continuous. I put a center punch mark on the end of the shaft and the U-joint before I disassembled it, so I know it's back like it was. The holes for the carrier are are bigger then the bolts and it has tinnermen type nuts so you can move it from side a 1/4 inch or so. How critical is it on the side to side alignment. Any other ideas of what what might be causing this problem?
Try doing a search in this forum for "drive shaft or drive line vibration" and you should be able to pull up some info on this subject. I know it's been discussed in here before. On your side to side mount location, as long as it's within those bolt holes it will be okay.
Keep in mind that, per Ford, "Rear two-piece driveshafts are balanced as an assembly. If a problem with the coupling shaft or driveshaft is identified, always replace the entire driveshaft to ensure proper balance and universal joint phasing."
I'm not sure if that info helps your situation, but it is relevant.
Also, are you sure it's the driveshaft bearing that is vibrating? Problems in other areas can cause similar symptoms. See for example:
