I have a 2000 ford expedition with a 5.4L motor and one mourning it started to make a loud ticking noise from the driverside of the motor, like no oil was in the motor but it was i checked the fuel pressure first it is ok around 35 psi with motor running, today i was looking around the motor with it running so i unplugged each one of the coils on the driverside and it was no change with the sound if the motor just need some help with what the problem could be.
Look through the tire well and see if all 8 exhaust studs are there. If any are missing, you have the famous broken exhaust stud issue and the ticking you're hearing is an exhaust leak.

he is right. I also have a 2000 5.4 expy. I had the same problem that you described every time i would start the engine. I looked at my exhaust studs and bingo 2 broken studs after i replaced them my problem went away.
Hey Alloro, where can you buy new studs from?
I put some used studs from a wrecked expy.
why does the motor have no power and with the coils unplugged on the left side the truck motor sounds the same as with them plugged.
Well then, maybe your whole problem is the rubber boots on the coils that cover the spark plugs are cracked. The ticking could also be the sound of spark jumping to ground. This would explain the lack of power and why you don't hear any difference with the coils connected or disconnected.
thank you and how much are the coil boots and is that part dealer only
