shift linkage broke

Well today while on my first landscape job for my business, my truck decides it doesn't won't to shift out of park to leave the job site. EMBARRASSING. My client offered to take my buddies home while I attempted to fix it, or call the tow.

Well ended up calling the tow, he tried to fix it on site and couldn't, so we loaded up and headed home.

I honestly expected some ******* truck driver to come and get me, but no, real kind country boy, from Kendale Towing out of the sanford area came and picekd me up. Held a nice conversation on the way. I tipped him $20, I was impressed.

Seems the cable or the sift column on the steering column has broken.

You know, just thinking about it, there was a puddle of fluid on the flat bed. Seemed like it was powersteering fluid.

Then I remembered the ABS light was flashing codes at me, what if that was brake fluid, and my truck locked up the shift lever as a safety thing to keep me from going any where? I look at it tommorrow, maybe master cylinder or brake booster.

Just gto through towing 2500lbs of rock before this happened.

So you're surprised the tow truck operator was not a jerk? I happen to drive tow truck and can tell you that most of us are professional and courteous. Before getting into towing myself, I had only two experiences with towing, but both drivers were nice, honest, and hard-working. Most other drivers I have met while working are good people, just like you describe.

I had to comment on your post because it was nice to see a someone mention getting towed without whining about the bill! People seem to think we are just trying to pull a fast one on them and that we should provide our service for next to nothing.

Have you checked the linkage on the tranny end? Inspect the linkage underneath. If you don't find the problem down there, disconnect the linkage and try putting getting it out of park from underneath.

Good luck!

Well the linkage was fine, it actually ended being a simple little 10 amp fuse, that ran all the exterior lights, "Shift Interlock", ETC. having the trailer lights hooked up did the trick.

Put a new fuse in and I was fine. We climbed underneath and shifted the truck out of park with the linkage unhooked,

As far as the tow-truck driver goes, the two towing companies around here that I've delt with are JERKS. Like they hate their job or something.

But this guy was from the area that I broke down in, Kendale towing, had a Great attitude, did a wonderful job in making sure my truck was ok, and even tried to fix the dern thing.
