Most of you know that I bought my truck about two months ago, so we are still gettting know each other.
My question today is I need someone to edumacate me on rear bags. My truck came with them already on it, but with no instructions. I know their purpose but I dont know many specifics.
What psi should the have with no load?
How much should the psi go up with how much wieght?
Max and Min psi?
Suggestions, comments, or precautions?
Well each manufacturer is different but a general rule is when unloaded, keep about 10 psi in them. When you load it up, try about 80 psi and visually look to see if it appears level..
I'll agree 10 psi is a good rule of thumb for minimum. Typically max is 100 psi, but the max pressure is rarely, if ever, needed. I usually run mine around 20 - 30 psi empty and up to about 60 psi depending on the load. The higher the pressure the stiffer the ride and the less sag. It's all really a matter of preference and something you just need to play with to get a feel for what you like.
I have bags on mine and I bought my truck about 3 or 4 months ago.
The guy that did some work on my truck before I brought it home said that they need air in them or you can ruin them. He said 20psi but I keep mine at 15psi to help soften the load a bit (kind of hard to do on a 3/4 ton truck) but at 15psi I have had a full load of wood in the back, gravel and other things and it seems to work well for me as all the load has ever done is level off the truck and I never did sit the truck down on the over load springs.
Also, please do remember that these air bags fill up and deflate VERY FAST so don't stick the air nozzle on there and hold it on for an extended period of time. That is if yours is like mine and doesn't have it's own air compressor. I have to fill mine up with an air compressor at a gas station or at home. The nipple are on the bumper. I'll change this down the road but it is very low on my priority list.
