IM buyin a new 2001 lightning and i was wondering what are some parts to put on the it...i was also wondering if there are ne one out there who has a 2001 lightning that has put exaust on it that has made it alot louder. i love the truck but i wish it was louder

there's two main people that make parts for the lightnings.


Sal at Power surge Performance (the best guy)
And also Jim at JDM engineering (I'm not happy with him, but he can tune)

Now they all make lots of parts to make your L faster. The main thing is a chip. a tuned chip can give you 40 to 50 HP depending on the programer and your mods. You ca also get a bigger lower blower pulley, electric fan kits, single blade throttle bodies, torque converters, shift kits, line locks, line valve mods, valve bodies, filer kits, ram air, full exhaust, gears, MSD ignintion's, Cams reground, and much more as the days go by.

Ken,

Should I wait a bit to determine what the best chip should be for the 2001 as a result of Ford's factory upgrades? Or, is there a manufacturer that already knows the best upgrades for the 2001 L?

I will use my L as a daily driver (not too many miles), but I would also like it to be a little quicker. I've read many emails on this and other message boards and it appears that a performance chip and a K&N filter are the best initial upgrades. Do you agree? Thanks..... bqr

 

PSP or JDM are the best out ther hands down.

The diablo chips are awesome too, but only if you have johhny lighning program them.

Either one of these chips with a K&N filter will get you 50hp easy!

I've tried them all and I like the PSP for the 4way chips, that way I can switch over to new programs for Nitrous, street, strip, and anthing else you want on there.

 

Just remember as long as the truck is under factory
warranty be carefull as to upgrades that alter performance
If a aftermarket part causes damage to a factory part you loose
warranty. Dont take it to the dealer with a chip installed!!!!

 

As to when to buy the Diablo, they've got good code for the Lightning now -- I flashed two Lightning programs this week and have sold MANY Lightning programs. If there is ever a major code upgrade, I can reflash your Diablo for free (provided you pay the postage).

No offense to the person who posted "The diablo chips are awesome too, but only if you have johhny lighning program them. ".... but that's false. All the same Diablo Lightning programs are available to all the Diablo programmers. Anyone who tells you otherwise is fibbing.

Sounds like this "Johnny Lightning" character is feeding people a line to convince them his Diablo's are different from everyone else's. Maybe that's an attempt to justify higher prices? I can program any of the Lightning programs Diablo makes available available (and they are available to ALL the dealers) and also submit custom code changes just as easily as any other programming dealer.

A Lightning Diablo chip gives about 40 HP on a stock Lightning. NO WAY A K&N IS GOING TO ADD 10HP MORE.

The 4 bank Diablo chips for the PSD have nothing to do with having more than one program for different applications. Instead, the 4 bank is designed to reduce the amount of end user support needed due to dealers reflashing the computer. Most chips override one bank on the main computer --- the bank that contains the tuning information. The 4 bank code replaces the ENTIRE code in the stock computer. That way, it doesn't matter if the dealer has reflashed the computer since we're replacing all the code.
