Chevy problems

We just replaced the fuel pump on my friends 84 chevy c20(350/TH350) and it idles great, but if we even touch the fuel pump it dies. I know this is a ford forum, but in my experience the most knowledgeable people are on here, so does anyone have any advice?

Is this an efi motor? Do you mean you touch the gas pedal it dies? If it is a carb engine, the first thing i would do is purchase a carb rebuild kit and clean it out and replace the accelerator pump. If it is efi, check that there aren't any obstructions in the tank and lines.

If EFI, replace the fuel filter. I had seen similar problem on another chebbie. If its carb, do like Alex said and rebuild carb. If that doesnt work, find a good Ford engine and trans and put that in it.
