Well, the tranny in the chevy express died last night. this is the third that has been in this van, and it only has 231,221 miles on it. It has also gone through 3 starters, 2 water pumps, and 2 fuel pumps. My dad is buying a used 2003 ford conversion van for 25,000.
I cannot say that I 'hate' Chevy (as the thread starts). In fact, until last November, I hadn't owned a Ford since 1978 & '79. (I was the 'dark horse', except when my Dad had bought a '54 Ford Customliner on the day of my birth.)
My family has always been a "General" family. GM (in my opinion) treated me unfairly over the paint on my '89 Chev V1500 (K5) Blazer, when it had not too many miles on it. It was then that I decided that GM can keep their cars and trucks, and I'll keep my money away from them. (When GM said that I wasn't 'Loyal'!! Ha!)
I must say though, in my family's experience, Chev's engine/trans combinations have always been dependable.
Hate??? Nah. Disappointed. But. . . what the heck. If it hadn't been for the ruckus with the General, I wouldn't have found FTE!
the shuttle van we have at work is a 2001 and has 240,000+ miles never had done anything to it and it has hauled its share of people to and from the airport. i have fit 14 people in it going to the airport and luggage and that isnt even the record the capacity is 11. most of the time it has 7 or more people in it
The guy that came to look at my home ac that crapped out was driving a 97 F-150 with a v6 auto and I looked at the odometer which showed 298,567 miles. The truck looked great and the guy told me that he had been driving that truck ever since the company bought it. He also said that other than normal maint. items....no major problems and that the truck has never left him stranded.
I grew up in a GM family and am proud to have learned from my parents mistakes. Unless GM makes some serious changes to the quality of the products they put in their vehicles, they better not ever expect me to be on one of their lots looking for a truck.

I have exactly same opinion ... but not about Chevy. About Ford. In past 5 years I had 4 Fords. Escort and Taurus failed at the begining, Mustang is starting to fail (even though it have only 30,000 miles), F-150 is really great for now (200 miles). If F-150 fail, I'm done with Fords in this lifetime. I never had anything from GM, but I wanna try someday. I especially like 1998-2002 Trans Am.
I don't mind GM, I would be proud to take several of their models home. It's Chrysler, Jeep, Eagle, Dodge that I hate. When working on installing two-way radios into Fords, and GM vehicles, I never had any problems. When installing radios into Chrysler, Jeep, Eagle, Dodge vehicles, they don't bend the flanges over, and you get a lot of cuts just reaching under the dash.
Up north last winter I asked the plow truck guy who pulled out the 11X17ft fish house out on the ice if I could look inside his old Dodge Cummins 3/4 truck. He said yes, and I just about fell over when I saw the odemeter at 406,000 miles! He claimed the motor had never been taken apart. Guessing the truck was used most of it's life as a highway cruiser or something.

That's usually how it works with those real-high-mileage vehicles. It's all on the highway. I think the number of on / off cycles determines a vehicle's condition better than miles anyway. They should have a counter that adds 1 whenever the key is moved from the "off" to the "run" position.
think about it, a cummins is a small semi engine, those things are built to last, i still dont know why ford hasnt made an inline six diesel, that is why we always get beat by cummins, we keep using the horsepower inclined v8 instead of the torqe inclined sixer.
My dad picked up the "new" ford E-250 today. Its got 14,xxx miles on it, quite low for an 03. My parents bought it from a friend. Its got pretty much every option(quad capitains, power sofa, hightop, dual power heated seats, genuine leather, dual TVs) and does not sag when we try to tow the 25 foot airstream. They are keeping the chevy to fix for my little sister(she gets her license in 3 months.)
