Since there are many new users here daily requesting help or a diagnoses of their truck's problems I thought it would be useful if they could read this and answer these questions in their first or new thread. Please feel free to suggest things to add or modify with this list. Having these things answered in the first post can speed up everyone's responses instead of having to ask them and wait for the OP response. Maybe we can make something like this a sticky.
1. Year of truck?
2. Engine size?
3. How many miles/kilometers?
4. Engine/transmission modifications?
5. Tire size?
6. OBD-II DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)?
7. How long has the issue been happening?
8. Recent or related repair/maintainance work?
9. How often, how hard is truck driven?
10. If exhaust smoke is new, what color is the smoke?
It sure would make it easier if all the above were posted about the truck in question. Is there any way of making a trouble shooting list that can be put in a stickey and then filled out by the person, added to the top of his question?
Nice post riggz. I agree that this information would help a lot in the troubleshooting process!
Engine size is probably not needed when the post is in a specific forum.
I also would like to know what kind of fluid and filter history the vehicle has (type of oil, type of filters used, change frequency).
True about engine size. I was thinking of making it generic enough to put in other forums as well. I just wanted to nail down the basics first to give everyone a general idea of what the truck's history is. If it's not related to their issue then it doesn't really need to be answered. Like if their truck won't start, tire size isn't really a factor.
If we can come up with a solid 10 questions then maybe when someone posts up a question we can refer them to the 10 Qs or something. Then after we've done it enough times newbies will catch on and post it up first.
Press 1 for fuel. Press 2 for oil. Press 3 for leaks. All you'll end up with is another ignored sticky. Might be fun to try though. Press 4 for to highjack and change the subject.
