Oh yeah i can be done, if you do it right. Stay away from the 'Brand Names.' Welcome to FTE, how much do you know about the mechanical workings of your truck?

well first off you want to get that hog breathing well, a very popular 6637 filter from napa or fleetfilter.com will get you off right, if you want to beat a dmax with that much power you youll want to look into possibley a h2e or a d66 turbo just to start off with, stage 2 sticks from beans or rosewood are a very well known brand, then youll want to get a nicely custom tuned chip from say.. dp tuner or powerhungry performance who extrapolate tons of power from are trucks, then a nice hpop to suport the beasts power, but were talking big money here, 500 for the chip,1000- 2000 for the turbo,800 for stg2 sticks 30 for the DIY intake and up to a grand for a good hpop, the motor will hold up exelent, it will out last and out pull that crappy dmax, but the E4oD can only with stand so much power before it gives out, and depending on your driving style and how much you drive, but if you stay ontop of your oil changes and get additional cooling to the tranny you can deffinetly prolong your trannys life, but just stay on here and youll learn a ton of tips and tricks about your truck, and welcome to FTE!

The short answer to this question is NO. You will never beat a tuned 550HP DMAX with 10,000 $ worth.

Unfortunately Rick is right, but on the other hand, are you sure he is running 550hp? Or is that just what he says? Alot of guys think they are running "big" numbers just because the put in an Egde chip....

Exactly. Last fall I was talking to a guy that has over 750hp at the wheels of his F-250 7.3psd because he was running an Edge with a Banks, and some other BS that added up to over 750hp. He was one of these guys that just knows everything about everything, so I just nodded and went on about my way.

I have a customer like that. He has a Dodge and has over 500 HP, he says. ## for the intake, ## for the exhaust, ## for chip, heck I think he has ## for a wax job.

Just remove the hood and start throwing parts on top of the engine and I'm sure you could get over 1000hp easy!

Who was it that posted a picture of their homemade cold air intake by removing the grill and installing a huge funnel in front of the radiator. That was funny!

Welcome to the forum young lad. I wish you good luck with your project. If you have a good running truck leave the mods for later. Brakes, suspension and drivetrain is what you should look at first. Plan your mods carefully and do your homework before making a choice. First right then fast.

Ill second that over and over again. im also 19 had the truck since i was 15 (my dually) and all i wanted was to put more and more power into the thing. but i never could cuz it would always fricken break on me! get it good and solid, meaning new brakes, tires, tie rods, u-joints, axles, glow plug system little things like that.
then put on an intake exhaust guages and then get urself a good chip(dont get an edge wish i would have gotten a TW!) and then start going big, injectors, intercoolers, turbos.
just my .2 cents worth
Mitch

girdle, does that mean head-studs because that was what I was going to say. You can spend half that on a BTS auto to take the power!

350-400 you can do for around $5000, but to build an everyday reliable 550hp you'll likely end up spending around $25K. It gets expensive really fast when you get into the high side bottom end builds.
