Well iver decided to change it over to a Duraspark two. the problem is, i dont know how to do any of it. i have a site that shows me the parts i need and part numbers and different places i can find them at. also someone has gotten harness i need so im good there. the problem is ive seen all these pictures of how to wire it and im at a loss of words because i dont know what any of it means!
is there any specific carburetor that i should get? im going to autozone to get it. i think a normal one for my year truck was like 160 or something. i cant seen to find one on ebay. i dont want a rebuilt one either. and i DONT want to goto the dealer. id love to find the distrubutor, module and carb in one package.
theres the page for the carburetors. but im confused. the cheap one says heated by hot air or hot wateR? is that the one i want? thats the regular carb isnt it? when the choke is heated by hot air itll open?

There's no such thing unfortunately.
And you do NOT want a carb from your year model, otherwise you will get the same exact type you have now back in return.
You will want one for a 1980 F-350, non-feedback type, Carter YF. This way there isn't any emissions hookups to worry about.
You will also need to know what transmission you have in order to get the correct carb. Either manual or automatic.
The hot air choke is present on all factory Carter YF, or YFA carbs. It's the tubes that goes to the choke stove that I explained earlier, that's where it gets it's heat from.

i think this is the one i want. comes out to 204 without the core.
Do you even have the ignition parts yet? I bet you don't. You are never going to learn anything until you buy all the parts and SEE what you are doing.
Why don't you get your ignition conversion done FIRST, then worry about carburetor and all the other questions you have?
well actually. weve already ordered them. on the way as we speak. i need the truck in tip top shape so i can drive 8 hours in july for my sons baby shower!

was reading back over wehat you said.
said i need to learn? ive asked numerous times the steps involved with connecting everything. ive posted pictures for you guys to point out the plug that supposed to already be there. havent gotten any answers. ive searched and looked it up myself. my dad bought the parts for his truck but hes sending them up here because he fixed the problem with his F150.
im worried about the carb because im RIPPING through gas. noone seems to be able to know hwo to adjust these feedback carbs, and ive got no responses on what needs to be fixed on the carb except it needs to be tighetend.
so its a new carb and new ignition system all around.
that feed back carb cannot be adjusted peroid.thats why you have to replace it.i would get the carb 81-f-150-explorer told you to get.i posted some pics on were every thing is placed and showed you connector where you plug the duraspark in to.now once you get the carb, distributor, duraspark and wire harness.we will be here to help you.we will have you up and running long before july.now don't get to excited, you don't want to tick anybody off.we are here to help you.the carb will be a straight forward swap,so will mounting the duraspark and connecting it.but pulling the the dist and reinstalling it is where our experience is,and where you will need us,and if not done correctly will cause you headaches.our you can get a shop to do it.it's up to you.
Your feedback carburetor and computer controlled truck is all supposed to work TOGETHER. A regular carburetor and the Duraspark II is all supposed to work TOGETHER.
1 - If you use a regular carb with the existing computer, it won't run right. You need to remove the computer AND switch to Duraspark II to get your truck running right.
2 - If you use your existing carb and change to Duraspark II ignition, it won't run right. You need to change to a regular carb to work with Duraspark II to get your truck running right.
Get the Duraspark II wired correctly FIRST, and then it is as simple as bolting on a regular carburetor, unless you have an Automatic Overdrive transmission.
You need to change the carburetor AND the ignition system. Switching the carb is the easy part. Changing to Duraspark II is going to be tricky trying to explain it here, that is why you need to get the parts FIRST so you can try to SEE what you are doing before asking us the same thing over and over again.
81-F-150-Explorer already told you what type of carb to get, I and others here have already told you what parts you need for the Duraspark conversion, and 86bigred gave you some good pictures for hooking it up.
Where did you get all of your ignition parts? I'm still slacking on getting mine swapped over to DS2 from feedback.
junkyards bro. just find the year that they came on. you can buy the parts but the harness you need fro ma junkyard. i suggest buying the Module, distributor from the aprts store. maybe its just me, but those parts from a junkyard seem a bit shaky. the harness you can get at the junkyard though too. if you need a carb, autozone has one that will work on your truck for pretty cheap. even with 1 day deliver it coems out to about 250
