back-fire

I am looking to by this 92 7.3 idi diesil he said it ran fine but it has been sitting for some time. Now that he has got it started it keeps back fireing up through the intake could this be just a sticking valve or should I just stay away from this deal thanx jeff

well maybe get some fresh fuel in it and run some kind of cleaner through it and see if itll free up the valve.

How many miles on it..... bad valves can do that..... 7.3 were known to get worn valve guides which then would cause a cocked valve on occasion. If it is worn really bad then piston and valve contact is possible.... at any RPM that could spell disaster for the engine.
