Going to get into replacing the upper and lower ball joints on the front of my 93 F-250 2WD 5.8L along with all the front suspension bushes (creaks a heck of a lot and has 204000 miles on it,things are getting loose under there)
Anyone have any pointers on pittfalls i should be aware of?
I know the ball joints themselves need to be pressed out and in but if that's the extent of the dificulty it does not sound too bad.
the 4x4 has upper and lower ball joints too, so i'm not sure what that was supposed to mean. A friend of mine used a hammer to get the ball joints out, no sense taking the time to press them when your throwing them away anyway. Use the press to put them back in though.
Get the press and use it to press the old ones out and the new ones in. If you have the press there is no sense in beating on your steering knuckle and risking damage to it.
Get a manual, that way you will have all the torque specs neccessary for completing the job. Buy quality ball joints, go to NAPA, the guy at the desk will hook you up with some quality b.j.s at a competitive price! In all seriousness though, the NAPA ones are good, so are Moog and Spicer. Stay away from Schucks and Autozone.
