Ignition Timing

I need to adjust the ignition timing on my 1978 F150 400m

what is it supposed to be set at. its one of the reasons why big boy didnt pass smog check

i also need to get a new fuel cap and some new hoses

If your engine still has the Ford parts on it, you might find a sticker with that info.
Maybe on one of the valve covers?

frickin smog check. Up here in the middle of nowhere (mid. SD) I don't think they even know what smog is (thank god)!!

yeah i know i was sooo sad

i dont want to install headers or anything because i hear it wont pass smog because of that

i dont want to take any chances and lose another $50 just because of that

i have no idea what the ignition timing is supposed to be at.

Is it an original stock truck?

if so, give details about the truck as much as you can - engine, tranny, and DSO.

If stock, try 10-12* Mine is a little different so i run about 16* If you are mechanically inclined, you may try a carb kit too. Few cans of carb cleaner and a pocket knife with a little time and TLC can make a world of difference.

I know its a lil off topic, but what state are you in and why is a vehicle that old required to take a smog/emissions test???

in MD as long as the vehicle is 20 years or older or has Historic/Street Rod registration its exempt...

i dont really know much about the truck it was a gift from my grandfather
im learning as me him and my dad work on it every weekend

just pretty much know its a ford 400m with an auto trans
its all pretty much stock on the truck so maybe like hairboxnoogle said? 10-12*?

oh and 79_408_Clevor i am in CA and since it was "change in ownership" i guess i needed too

big pain in the *** haha
