found a good set of gt-40P"s at a good price(especially considering they must be the only set for sale around here). i know that the spark plug location may be an issue. in researchin this, i found people saying they ground their headers and all went well.(pony forums, so i don't know if this applies to my truck) ALSO heard that there are special headers for 40p's vs. 40 (which bolt right on). i have called the junkyards and none have any vehicle that would have these heads, so this is my best bet. but what am i going to have to do as far as headers if i go that way? grinding header flanges doesn't exactly sound brilliant. are there 40p headers available that will fit a 79 2wd f-150? OR could i make a standard set work with these heads, even with a little grinding? obviously i want to make the best choice possible, even if it means holding out till i get my hands on some regular 40's. just lookin for some advice on this or any input fromm someone who has experianced this. thanks and keep on truckin!
(also, what new hardware would be recommended for installation of these heads, can i re-use anything?)
I ran those heads on an 86 F150 with the headman headers I had on it, 1 spark plug wire was a problem (second back on drivers side) and IIRC you had to loosen them to put that spark plug actually in. otherwise I didn't have any issues
do you know how close the heddmans are to dynomax black jacks? right now it's a toss up between the two, and now i am leanin towards heddman. but i can get the dynomax shipped free thru the local speed shop. and if all i have to do is losen the heddmans..that sounds like my best bet. appreciate it.
I really don't know as have never ran the blackjacks, I imagine probably not a lot different and you can grind the flange a little if you need to although it's teh header tube that causes the issue.
